Bering Sea Ancient Kayak Hunter
During the Spring, Summer and Fall months, the Southwestern people of Nunivak Island used these larger and longer kayaks made from walrus skin, the frame was made from a white spruce wood, selected and found from the coastal shores of Nunivak Island, they were used for Spring hunts for walrus , seals and a from of transportation during the early spring and summer migration to the spring seal and walrus camps, and the summer harvest seasons, harvesting salmon for the winter food source. This type of Bering Sea Ancient kayaks were highly possessed as the only from of spring, summer and fall transporting kayak, it is said that you were not allowed to use a kayak until you were the age of 18 years of age, and was a highly priviliged vessel to honor.
